Oh poop

I am sooooo frustrated!

I was told it was a fab pattern and easy to follow.  So what is wrong with me?  Why do some patterns stump the h*** out of me?  I NEED diagrams.  I don't need words - words just confuse me.  I need pictures.  Lots of pictures.  And some more diagrams.  And another picture for good measure!  And this pattern looked like it had lots of pictures - just not enough for me.  I am special - did you know that!?  Very special.  So special I need more pictures and diagrams than the average person.  I am a visual learner - that is how I understand things.  Tonight, I did not understand things.  Obviously not enough pictures!

You know, I bought this pattern at the very beginning of June.  A couple of weeks later I picked my fabric and printed and taped the pattern pieces together and pinned it all to the fabric.  Exciting stuff but I hesitated cutting it - I didn't want to mess it up [hahaha too funny!].  I walked away and left it for a few weeks - until tonight.

Tonight I was feeling in the mood to FINALLY get it done and I cut, cut again and poop - something went wrong.  Not enough fabric to cut 2 of each of C and D.  What!!??  So I contacted the pattern writer and she told me I needed 2 of C and none of D for the exterior.  Poop again!  This means I wasted a whole piece of fabric on D when it should have been a second C.  Are you confused yet!?  I am!!

[cue tears and rain dance]

So, I am sitting here all frustrated that a sewing pattern got the better of me tonight and that I wasted my yummy Cosmo Cricket Black with Cream dots which means I can't finish this darn bag tonight and enter it into Purse Palooza for tomorrow's deadline.  Poop.  Yes I can re-use the fabric in something else but if I want to continue making THIS bag in THAT fabric I will need to drive out and buy some more and that won't happen tomorrow or the next day or the next day.  Poop.  Looks like this bag is on hold AGAIN!

Another WiP added to my list.

Oh poop.

I have to read the pattern, then refer to pics, then re-read, then refer to pics, again, and again, and again. Eventually, I just do what is says...Then finally...it works. i think in my case, it is trust issues. For some reason, I think the pattern maker has made a giant mistake in their pattern. Really, it's just I can't figure the damn thing out. Haha. That makes for ..really..long..sewing..sessions. Don't give up, you'll get it.

I feel your pain as I'm the same. I have the same problem with certain patterns. I'm sure it will be all fine in the end. Just take your time, get some more fabric and try again. You can do it!

That's why I don't follow patterns and prefer improv! A lot less stress.

Oh Amy that is crap!! I think now would be the perfect time to make yourself on of those gross bacon, jam and PB sarnies to cheer you up x

Oh no! Deep breath, get more fabric and start again. You could try making it up first in some ugly fabric - just to practice!?
But after you've taken Kelly's advice and had one of those nasty sarnies! x

Oh poop :( I know it won't help you get your bag done but if it is any consolation, I cut loads and loads of 2" and 1 1/2" strips for Lynne's Union Jack pillow out of completely the wrong colour, and I have no idea what else I would use those strips for, so they are just sitting in my sewing cupboard reminding me what a donut I am. Hope you get more fabric to finish it as I'd love to see it when it's done!

I am with you 100%! I am pattern challenged too. I need a map! My friends mock me but once I show them how awesome my maps work, most still mock, but some love them :)

That really is annoying when a pattern isn't totally clear on what to do! Words are all well and good, but a picture is a thousand so they can cut some text out! I bought a magazine to make some bags and most of it was in text, with unclear directions and diagrams for irrelevant things!! >_<

I am so sorry you have had a problem. I am very glad it was not my pattern- couldn't be I havent done one!
But take heart, we all have to get something wrong, or we wouldn't know when we get it right??? Or something. Deep breaths and start over. But get yourself something extra easy to do first to get your ooomph back!
