If this was a quilt top that you created, how would you quilt it? By hand, straight, grid on point, stipple all over except in the white areas? This isn't big so I am totally happy to try my hand at hand quilting a whole quilt but should you hand quilt baby quilts? Do the stitches last wash after wash?
HELP - I need some ideas on how to make this baby quilt SING!
Linking to WiP Wednesday.
I looks lovely and I would definitely be tempted to hand quilt it - I've just started hand quilting my baby quilt and I figure that so long as you finish the ends of the thread properly it should hold up to washing just fine! I also hand pieced the quilt, but used quilting thread for a bit of extra strength.
ReplyDeleteWell, if it were me, I would make the centers with echo circles (moving in from the outside), and I would probably so something in the plain gray areas like stippling that would make the white pearl material stand out. You could do feathering in those outside borders, either big ones or a design of smaller ones. If you haven't looked at, I like Leah Day's website for ideas on free motio9n quilting. I'm not one for hand stitching. Hope this helps
ReplyDeleteTo clarify, I'd do the concentric circles in the round orange centers, not the very center. I'd probably do a small type of quilting in the very center, although not the same as the gray outside the pearl fabric. I'm sure that's as clear as mud! A lot of quilting in the middle, less in the pearls fabric, more in the orange round circles, etc.
ReplyDeletehand quilt hand quilt hand quilt hand quilt!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletecould do both, straight lines along the white sashing and hand quilt around the pattern you would like to pick out.

I made a baby quilt for my daughter 37 years ago and all the stitches are still holding. All my quilts are hand pieced and hand quilted and donated to charities. There are some charties that will not accept hand quilting. I think that is a shame because they are great quilts that can be passed from generation to generation. babscorbitt@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy son has a hand quilted and tied quilt which is standing up to the test of time (3 years). I reckon you'd be fine to hand quilt it - it's lovely :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Charlitte - hand quilt and some in orange :-)
