My Precious Vintage Holiday quilt

QAL

Good news!!  I have just finished the last blocks for my Vintage Holiday QAL quilt and I am in love!!  I am two weeks ahead of schedule on the block making but I just couldn't help myself.  The pattern is a dream and the blocks sew up quickly.  Here they are all together:


I know a lot of you are not fans of plaid - they are perhaps a bit too 'traditional' to be considered 'modern' - but I love 'em...well, some of them anyways!  For this quilt-along I chose to use some of my precious plaid fabrics and a set of my precious snowflake fabrics that I purchased quite some time ago.  I wanted a cosy cottage feel (I live in an English cottage) so thought this might be the perfect combination.


To sash or not to sash, that is the question.... The pattern calls for sashing so I think I will eventually add Kona Ash sashing to make the complete quilt, though I kind of like it naked and sash-free.  Regardless, my fingers are crossed that this will be a completed quilt BEFORE Christmas THIS year!  This is the first Christmas quilt I have made and I think I will add a hanging sleeve so I can hang it on my living room wall which will make the cottage feel very Christmasy indeed!  I'll be sure to take picture in December for you!  Check out all the other blocks in the Vintage Holiday Quilt-Along group - these will be impressive quilts!!

I love that I picked the grey Aneela Hoey print as the bauble tops with the little circles randomly appearing on each one!  I shall be be linking my efforts up to Kelby Sews for her 'My Precious QAL' linky party and fingers crossed for me on this last link-up as there are all sorts of fantabulous prizes to be won!!  Thank you Kelby for the encouragement to actually USE our precious fabric!!

Oh and I almost forgot to share my Zakka Little Red Bear -- I used some of my precious red and white plaid for his tummy and some blue and white for the pillow!! Here it is:

    I think the plaids work wonderfully. Sometimes when I'm shopping for fabric, it bothers me that I look at certain colors or patterns that catch my eye and hesitate about buying them because, well, they're not "modern." I made a decision a while back that I'm going to make what I like, out of the fabrics that I choose. Who cares what anyone else thinks? :)

    would you consider taking another colour than Kona ash? - the plaids and the colours ask for a warm sashing, as the background is already white, which is a very cold colour. Though I'm not sure which colour to take, green, red, a brown (though brown is always dangerous)...

    well done it looks great, very cozy! You have actually inspired me - I have a pile of my boys old PJs, a mixture of Christmas prints, flannels and yes plaids that would look great in this pattern. Although I doubt I could finish it before this Christmas.

    And I also wonder about a sashing other than grey, beige perhaps? Navy would go too but think it might be too strong.

    Your plaid baubble quilt is lovely. As for the sashing - try doing a red cornerstone between the sashing - it might work.

    Lovely Christmassy blocks, Amy, they'll be fab in your quaint quirky cottage :-) And I like Di's suggestion for red corner stones too.....

    I am a sucker for plaid too in a folksy piece - have you seen a book called Hearts Aplenty? It has some lovely stuff - mainly machine applique - and it has lots of plaid. I will bring it along if you are at LMQG this weekend?

    It looks awesome! I ummed and ahhed about this QAL and am now kicking myself that I didn't join it. Fantastic job. I normally wouldn't go for plaids but it really works for this. Nice choice. Can't wait to see the completed quilt (before Christmas! hehehe). Thanks for linking up to TGIFF. :)

    That Vintage Holiday quilt is soooo pretty! I just bought the pattern and I can't wait to start it. First to pick out fabrics, that is the hard part for me, lol, great job!
